Dryer vent cleaning in Montreal

This is the cheapest and most often postponed service in the catalogue — and the one whose consequences are the most serious. A dryer duct in a Plateau or Rosemont plex may run several metres through walls before reaching the alley, with two or three elbows; every elbow traps lint. When a cycle that used to take 45 minutes takes 90, the appliance is not dying — the duct is blocked.

In short

Dryer vent cleaning removes the lint built up along the entire duct, from the connection behind the appliance to the exterior damper. Lint is fuel: packed into a heated duct it is one of the best-documented causes of residential fire, and it lengthens drying time because moisture can no longer escape. In Montreal plexes and apartment buildings, ducts are often long, elbowed or shared, which speeds the build-up.

When should you call?

  • Loads take two cycles instead of one.
  • The top of the dryer or the room is unusually hot during drying.
  • A burning or hot-laundry smell appears during the cycle.
  • The exterior damper does not open fully, or lint is poking out of it.
  • Laundry comes out still damp or smelling musty.
  • The duct has never been cleaned since the dryer was bought.

What's included

  • Moving the appliance and disconnecting the duct
  • Rotary brushing over the full length, elbows included
  • Complete lint vacuuming
  • Cleaning and checking of the exterior damper
  • Sealed reconnection and repositioning
  • Airflow test at the end of the job
Typical duration
About 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on duct length and access.

Once a year for normal use. More often if the duct is long or heavily elbowed, if there are many loads per week, or if the household has long-haired pets.

How we work

Access and inspection

The dryer is pulled out, the duct disconnected and its route identified — length, number of elbows, material. A flexible plastic duct or one crushed behind the appliance is flagged: that is an installation defect, not dirt.

Rotary brushing over the full length

A rotary brush on a flexible rod travels the entire duct. It breaks up the lint compacted in the elbows, where a vacuum alone never reaches.

Vacuuming and exterior hood

Everything is vacuumed as it comes loose, and the exterior damper is opened, cleaned and checked. A damper blocked by lint or a nest undoes the rest of the work.

Reconnection and test

The duct is reconnected and properly sealed, the dryer put back, then a cycle is run to verify airflow at the exterior hood.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my dryer need two cycles?

In the vast majority of cases because the duct is obstructed. A dryer expels hot, moisture-laden air; if lint blocks the path the moisture stays in the drum and the laundry does not dry. Replacing the appliance changes nothing until the duct is cleared.

Is it really a fire risk?

Yes. Lint is a fine, dry fuel and a dryer duct is heated on every cycle. It is a recognised cause of residential fire for fire services in Quebec as elsewhere in North America — and also the easiest to eliminate: an annual cleaning is enough.

My duct runs across the whole basement — is that a problem?

It is common in Montreal plexes and townhouses and not a problem in itself: it simply means a duct that needs cleaning more often, because every metre and every elbow traps lint. Tell us the approximate length on the phone and the quote accounts for it.

Do you work in apartment buildings?

Yes, and that is often where the need is greatest: long ducts, shared outlets, tenants coming and going. We work with owners, condo boards and property managers, grouping units into a single visit.
