Post-disaster cleaning and decontamination in Montreal

A disaster leaves two traces: the one you see and the one that circulates. In a forced-air building, soot from a kitchen fire or spores from a flooded basement reach the duct network within hours and are then redistributed at every start-up, long after the visible surfaces have been washed. That is the part people forget, and the reason the smell comes back.

In short

After water damage or a fire, cleaning works on three fronts: the affected surfaces and textiles, the ventilation network that carried soot or spores through the building, and the odour, which persists until its source is removed. Nettoyage Service Plus handles the cleaning and decontamination side — surfaces, carpets, furniture, ducts — in coordination with the restoration contractor and the insurer, and states clearly what belongs to another trade.

When should you call?

  • A smoke or mould smell persists after the surfaces have been cleaned.
  • Water damage reached a basement containing the furnace or air exchanger.
  • A sewer backup reached carpets or furniture.
  • Soot is visible around the vents after a fire, even a minor one.
  • A unit has to be restored between tenants.
  • An estate sale or a property sale requires a full restoration.

How we work

Assessment and scope

We establish what is recoverable and what is not, and what belongs to another trade — demolition, structural drying, reconstruction. You get a written picture you can use with your insurer.

Surface decontamination

Affected surfaces are cleaned and decontaminated according to the nature of the event: clean water, grey water, sewage, soot. Each category has its protocol; they are not treated alike.

Textiles and furnishings

Carpets, rugs, upholstery and mattresses are treated or removed depending on condition. A textile hit by contaminated water cannot be saved: we say so rather than billing for it.

Ventilation network and odour

The duct network is cleaned and sanitized to stop soot or spores recirculating. This is the step that removes the smell for good instead of masking it.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work with insurance companies?

Yes. We provide a written assessment and itemised invoicing usable in a claim, and we coordinate with the adjuster and the restoration contractor. We do not negotiate with the insurer on your behalf: our role is to document what we find and what we do.

Can you remove smoke odour?

Smoke odour goes away when its source is removed, not when it is covered up. That means cleaning the surfaces, treating the textiles that absorbed it and sanitizing the ventilation network that redistributes it. If a porous material is deeply impregnated — insulation, drywall — replacing it is the contractor’s job, and we will tell you so.

Do you handle emergencies?

Call 514 505-2500 and explain the situation: damage events are prioritised in the schedule. We do not promise a fixed response time on a website — a promise that cannot be kept on a storm day is worthless. You will get a real timeframe on the phone.
